 All about Kalakaua

Kalakaua Middle School is named in honor of the last king of Hawai'i, David Kalakaua (1836-1891), who was also known as the "Merrie Monarch". The school first opened its doors in 1928 to 1,550 students and 61 teachers. Today Kalakaua Middle School serves approximately 1,060 students and is part of the Farrington Complex, which includes Fern, Ka'ewai, Kalihi, Kalihi-Kai, Kalihi-Uka, Kalihi-Waena, Kapalama, Linapuni, Pu'uhale Elementary Schools, Dole Middle School, and Farrington High School.
